Pulmonary Practice Principles

Course Description:
The pulmonary system joins the cardiovascular system to form the cardiopulmonary circuit that is responsible for the delivery of oxygen to all end organs. Pulmonary dysfunction affects cardiovascular hemodynamics and impacts the physiological health and quality of life of all our patients. This course explains complex principles of pulmonary physiology in a way that makes the concepts easy to understand and clinically relevant. During review of this recorded live program participants will gain insights that can be applied to both pulmonary pathophysiology and pulmonary therapeutic interventions.

Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this program, the learner should be able to

  1. Compare the assessment of adequate ventilation to the assessment of adequate ventilation.
  2. Contrast conditions that alter ventilation with conditions that alter perfusion.
  3. Describe pathological conditions that result in ventilation and perfusion mismatching.
  4. Discuss clinical factors that alter the relationship between oxygen and hemoglobin.
  5. Explain the role of SVO2 in assessing the adequacy of oxygen delivery.
